INTRODUCTION“The best place to seek God is in the Garden…you can dig for Him there.”
George Bernard Shaw
“Kent Kraus has an uncanny feel for the sophisticated simplicity of contemporary Japanese pottery. I am continually amazed at Kent's ability to bring a sense of elegance and liveliness into his finished pieces. To me, Kent’s work also reflects a delicate beauty, much like Georgia O'Keeffe's sensuous paintings.”
Atwell Fine Art
Welcome to my flower garden. In this garden you will find my Desert Bloom Collection. These organic sculptures are hand-made of clay. Many hours are consumed in the development of each original piece. Full-size sculptures are created with over 70 clay coils which require a month to complete the process. The mid-size sculptures and water fountains take two to three weeks to finish. A commissioned sculpture requires eight weeks for delivery. There are no refunds on commissioned sculptures. Each sculpture has a limited edition.
The sculptures are wheel-thrown in two or three pieces, assembled, then hand-coiled and shaped to complete the image’s form. The piece is then scraped and sanded smooth to fully express the movement of the lines. I use several different types of stoneware clays depending on the intention of the sculpture. The colored clays I utilize are flesh, Anasazi gray, a light yellow-gold and white. The sculptures are fired to a temperature of 2167°F and colored with a self-developed glaze or left in their natural clay state.
I know you will enjoy how the light falls upon these images. Each sculptural movement has its own spectacular shadow. The beauty and emotion of the piece will change throughout the day as the light moves over the sculpture. The lighting of the sculpture is a very important part of the creative expression.
I am currently selling my artwork through galleries, art agents, interior designers, fine art shows, and privately to art collectors throughout the United States and Canada.
